1000 Taylor Development

Blog by Greg Hamilton, REALTOR® | March 11th, 2013

My friends with the River Heights Residents Association have put out a survey to get your thoughts on the proposed development at 1000 Taylor, just west of the Hydro building. See the comments and link to survey below.

Dear family, friends and neighbours!

The River Heights Residents Association (RHRA) would like to keep the community informed about development proposals in our area.  Recently, the Shindico development team has proposed approximately a 95 acre multi-use development called Grant Park Pavilions at 1000 Taylor Ave.  This site is bounded by Taylor Ave to the north and the rail line to the south.  The site wraps around the Hydro building towards Harrow and extends west to the Sobeys site, towards Nathaniel Street (see attached image).

The development plan was available at the Schindico Open House on February 25th.  Members of the River Heights Residents Association attended the “Open House” to ask questions and to get more information.  We requested copies of their information display boards and were initially told that they would be made available by email to the RHRA.  They later rescinded.

Shindico provided the following information at the “Open House”:
1)    Residential mixed-use area (Seniors Care Facility and Seniors Assisted Living Facilities, other apartments or condos) at the rear of the site behind the Hydro building.
2)    Office, Retail, Hotel and Residential buildings at the front of the site along Taylor.
3)    Office, Restaurant at the rear on the west side.
4)    Larger Retail (Big Box) at the rear of the site backing to the rail line.
5)    There will be a controlled intersection mid block between Nathaniel and Wilton. Access to the site will be off Taylor, off Harrow (behind the Hydro building) and through the Sobeys site.

There is a Public Hearing on Tuesday, April 16th regarding the change of zoning to permit the proposed mixed use of the development.  A detailed development plan will be released by the City of Winnipeg at the end of March prior to the Public Hearing.

The RHRA would like to hear from you about your thoughts and concerns that you may have regarding this project.  Your assistance with our survey will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey!
