The Spot on Sterling Lyon

Blog by Greg Hamilton, REALTOR® | April 23rd, 2013

Tomorrow, the City of Winnipeg's Appeal Committee will hear an appeal against the decision of the Assiniboia Community Committee to approve a Variance on the developers property. The Variance is concerned with access to a new residential community 'The Spot on Sterling Lyon'. The 13.1 acre property at 1714 Wilkes is an old industrial property currently owned by CNR. It is adjacent to the Seasons of Tuxedo Retail Developement and is north of Sterling Lyons Parkway and east of Shaftesbury. This site is the planning stages of becoming 7 new multi family lots. The development team plan to re-zoning the property to RMU Multi-family residential. See all the information on the City's webiste here.

It would be great to see some affordable senoirs housing/condos with enclosed parking in this area of town ....they are in short supply. I do wonder if this is another ad hoc development where there are no effective links from one project to the next or sufficient community consultation. It sounds like only 4 people turned out to the open house. It does appear that there are several large independent projects going through the city with barely a mention by media or residents (positive or negative).

Planned growth is good. Let's make sure that it is done right the first time!
